St. Charles Youth Baseball “Return to Play” Covid - 19 Guidelines & Protocols

Phase 4 of the Restore Illinois Plan

As we get ready for returning to play and our "super season", we are focused on ensuring the safety of our players, coaches, and spectators.  STC Baseball will follow guidance of state and local agencies and will be implementing additional procedures and recommendations to ensure we mitigate risk of exposure to COVID-19 to the best of our ability.

All players must turn in a signed 2020 Covid-19 waiver to their coach before their first practice or game.  Waivers have been emailed to all players or can be found below.

General League Information

  • All players must have a waiver form turned in to coaches before participating in any practices or games
  • Parents are asked to take players temperature before practice/games. Players with temperature over 100.4 or other symptoms (cough, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fever, chills, muscle pain, sore throat, new loss of taste or smell) should not attend team activities...when in doubt stay home.
  • Parents must notify league at contact@stcbaseball.com of possible Covid-19 situation in immediate family and league will act in accordance with state health guidelines.
  • No sharing of personal equipment such as helmets, bats, water bottles. (players should have own equipment)
  • Team snacks are prohibited
  • It is recommended that parents provide players with their own hand sanitizer, coaches will have a supply for before and after practices/games
  • Bathroom facilities and water fountains are not expected to be available
  • No seeds, gum, or spitting of any kind

Spectator Policy

  • Spectators from different households should practice social distancing of 6 feet at all times and remain in designated areas
  • Out of respect for all families, spectators are expected to stay out of designated areas for players/coaches during games
  • It is recommended that families limit the number of spectators to one per household and individuals that are Immune Compromised not attend
  • Spectator area: the area that extends from 1st & 3rd base and towards the outfield will be for spectators to watch games while social distancing.  Spectators belonging to different households should remain 6 feet apart from each other.

Practices and Games

  • Coaches will be provided with hand sanitizer, disinfectant spray to start the season as well as a set of 12 cones to facilitate social distancing.
  • Hand sanitizer should be used before/after practices.  It is recommended that parents also provide their players with their own sanitizer.
  • No catchers at the Rookie, Bantam, & Mustang levels.
    • A net will be provide to each team at the Mustang level behind home plate to serve as a target for pitchers and use for calling balls/strikes
    • A coach will serve as a “in-play” catcher to facilitate force outs at home plate
  • Minor, Major, & Pony teams will be provided 3 catcher’s helmets and are limited to 3 players per practice/game.  Coaches will sanitize catcher’s helmets after each practice/game.
  • Equipment including baseballs and batting tees should be disinfected between practices/games
  • Personal equipment should be stored in bags when not in use and bags should be spaced 6 feet away from each other
  • Social distancing of 6 feet should be observed by coaches and players, as reasonable
    • Coaches are required to have masks on them and should wear them when they are inside the 6 feet boundary with a player
  • Players and coaches are discouraged from using traditional high-fives, fist bumps, etc. and should use alternative ways to celebrate such as air high-fives
  • Warm-up time before games should be limited to 15 minutes
  • Practice times should be limited to: Rookie (60 minutes), Bantam/Mustang (75 minutes), Minor/Major/Pony (90 minutes)
  • Coaches are required to take attendance for practices and games
  • The use of dugouts is limited to 3 players

Facilities

  • Fields will have designated areas for coaches/players, and spectators.
    • Player & Coach area: the area from the end of dugouts to the backstop will be for coaches & players only to provide enough space for social distancing when batting and provide protection from foul balls/throws
    • Spectator area: the area that extends from 1st & 3rd base and towards the outfield will be for spectators to watch games while social distancing.  Spectators belonging to different households should remain 6 feet apart from each other.
  • Player areas will be marked to give each player their own area for equipment and help maintain social distancing
